A year ago I posted this blog about a new piece I composed entitled, ‘Every Hour of These Days’ specially for the fast…
All around the world, Baha’is fast during a period of 19 days from sunrise to sunset from the beginning of March (this year the fast is from March 1-19). I find this period to be one of the most creative times of the year. Every moment seems to be filled with a creative spirit.
During my last fast, I chose certain favourite passages on the theme of the fast and wanted to incorporate these inspiring quotations in a song. These passages describe the purpose and importance of the fasting period and the attitude with which we should fast. Below is the song entitled, ‘Every Hour of These Days’ with several passages from the Bahá’u’lláh, Abdu’l-Bahá and Shoghi Effendi (photo with lyrics below).
This song is now available as part of the album ‘Meditations for the Fast’. You can listen to it and purchase it below.
“Thou hast endowed every hour of these days with a special virtue, inscrutable to all except Thee, whose knowledge embraceth all created things.” – Bahá’u’lláh
“Fasting is the cause of the elevation of one’s spiritual station.” – Abdu’l-Bahá
“…fasting is the supreme remedy and the most great healing for the disease of self and passion.” – Bahá’u’lláh
“Even though outwardly the Fast is difficult and toilsome, yet inwardly it is bounty and tranquillity.” – Bahá’u’lláh
“It is essentially a period of meditation and prayer, of spiritual recuperation, during which the believer must strive to make the necessary readjustments in his inner life, and to refresh and reinvigorate the spiritual forces latent in his soul.” – Shoghi Effendi
