Resources to nurture Love & Marriage

This is a special page on the theme of love and marriage. I have been married now for over 20 years and throughout that time I have always been intrigued by the concept and institution of marriage. When I meet couples who have been together for a long time (especially older couples who have been married for 30, 40 or 50 years), I always ask them to share with me what has made their marriage work, and what insights they have to share with others to help them in their relationships. So on this page I have included a variety of specially chosen materials from a number of sources that I hope will provide inspiration regarding this most important aspect of life.
I would like to begin by sharing a beautiful quotation from Kahlil Gibran called ‘On Marriage’ which is accompanied by a piano instrumental I composed spontaneously.  Enjoy!

Below are some links to the resources on this page. I hope you enjoy and find them useful!

A number of years ago, my husband and I were asked to give a talk on ‘Enriching Marriage and Family Life’ to a large gathering. We felt very humbled by this task, especially since in the audience there were many people who had been married much longer than we had, so instead of giving a talk we decided to create a booklet of quotations with questions for reflection. At the gathering we divided everyone into small groups. The groups then read and discussed the materials. The experience turned out to be very enjoyable and enlightening for many of the participants and we have subsequently used the same materials with other groups. Here is the booklet in case you would like to use it or share it with your friends. At the end of it, we have included some fun questions for couples to ask one another. Enjoy!

Getting to Know You – A fun workbook for couples

This workbook is the result of a project that we started on our 10th anniversary holiday and finished ten years later during our 20th anniversary getaway. It began as a fun exercise for the purpose of celebrating and appreciating our time together, and as a way of thinking about what we want to do in the future.

The questions are intended to be explored together as a couple in a light and happy spirit (ideally on a picnic, on a dinner date or over coffee at your favorite café). There is no particular significance to the order of the questions so couples are free to pick and choose, jump around and answer or skip questions as you wish. The only requirement is that it brings you joy as a couple!
