Video for 'Invictus'

As we embark on a New Year with fresh beginnings, I am excited to share with you a video for the poem ‘Invictus’ that I recently set to music as a tribute to Nelson Mandela.  I felt it would be powerful to have imagery with the lyrics of this inspirational poem so I asked my son to create this video.  I hope the words of the poem and the images from the life of Nelson Mandela provide inspiration and courage to all. May they assist us to bring more meaning to our daily endeavors, to strive for higher goals and to touch the lives of all those around us.
I recently made the song ‘Invictus’ available for purchase.  Here is the link.

Thank you Elika for this beautiful song, and very appropriate for such a peace loving person, Nelson Mandela.

There are a few moments in history that I witnessed that reinforced to me the coming of the New World Order. one was the tearing down of the Berlin Wall. The other, of course, was the end to Apartheid. Such a wonderful tribute to a great and humble leader. Thanks to you and your son, for creating it, and for sharing it with us.

A big man, a big contribution.
A pure voice, a pure heart.
A warm heart, a warm work.

Elika, Thank you for your moving and inspiring tribute! What a magical voice you have, and what pure musicality! Deepest thanks for sharing this with all of us, and to Taraz for providing the beautiful video. The ten days of mourning here in South Africa were a life-changing experience for many, and I pray insights gained by any of us over that time will be sustained so we can bring his legacy to life. Thank you, from another side of the planet 🙂

    Elika January 20, 2014Reply

Aww thank you Sally for your heart-felt words. I’m sure his life was a huge loss for South Africa and all over the world. We can learn so much from his example.

Caressing music truly a tribute to Nelson Mandela who is among those who are peacemakers: Gandhi, Sadaat, Martin Luther King, Jr and others. Can I share this song?

    Elika July 3, 2014Reply

Thank you Jalehjoon! I will thank T on your behalf. 🙂

Wonderful! Your good performance touched me.
Here is my Chinese translation of this poem.

My brother is an English teacher and shared the poem Invictus with me only a few days ago. It’s exactly what I needed to encourage me through a difficult challenge. The “fell clutch of Cir umstance” and “bludgeonings of Chance” do not discern right from wrong or good from bad. It’s only within our full faculties of mind, body and spirit where faith resides, that there is sustenance to be “the master of my fate” & Captain of my Soul”. Bravo for an exquisitely rendered tribute to a truly honorable man.

      Elika October 10, 2015Reply

Hi Patricia, many thanks for your message. I’m so happy to hear that the poem has helped you greatly and I’m thrilled that you enjoyed the music that accompanies the poem. This is one of my favourite pieces that I have composed because of the message in the poem.

    Elika October 10, 2015Reply

Thank you so much Ken for the Chinese translation of this poem!

Elika…. I just listened to this beautiful piece in honor of Nelson Mandela! Your voice and piano accompaniment seems to capture the spirit and dignity on this great humanitarian… And I love the modulation you use in the song! Hopefully a lot of folks will go to C D Baby.com and purchase this as I will!
    Blessings from the coastal Georgia!

Struggles accompanies perseverance to those that refuse to lay down the zest for life in pursuit of justified ends. And with your quiet tone, have shown that by listening and understanding words in context and content, an inner soul that never was experienced, can be revived. Thank you so much for being that One.

I thought you might like to hear my tribute piece for Nelson Mandela performed by our jazz trio! It does not have poignant quality of your
piece but I hope you like it! Keep on keepin’ on Elika….you’re the best!
