A Lingering Spirit

This morning, as I was meditating, I was taken back for a few moments to my time in the Shrine of Abdu’l-Baha in Haifa.  The spirit I felt there was engulfing and I often feel the effects of those precious days on our Baha’i Pilgrimage.  The strength, joy and immense bliss one feels there are truly intense and I enjoy reminding myself daily of that special feeling that was ever-present when I was there.
One of my joys and wishes during my Pilgrimage was to be able to sing in the Shrines.  I had such a longing to do so (as I mentioned in my previous blog).  On one occasion, my mother and I had the rare privilege of being alone inside of the Shrine of Baha’u’llah for several minutes.  I stood near the Threshold looking into the room where Baha’u’llah was laid to rest and chanted prayers in several languages.  A feeling of exuberance came over me and such fulfilment!  I left the Shrine feeling so elated as my wish had been granted yet again.
So many of my friends and relatives were in my prayers in that sacred place.  Abdu’l-Baha wrote a beautiful passage regarding praying for others in the Shrines:
“There can be conceived no greater manifestation of love and kindness in the existent world today than this, that one should call to mind a loved one at the Sacred Threshold of Baha’u’llah, occupy oneself with his remembrance, and offer prayers for his well-being.  This is the greatest blessing and favor, the most perfect bounty and bestowal.” – Abdu’l-Baha

    Dearest Elika,
My family and I will be going to Haifa for nine day pilgrimage during Naw-ruz. We will remember you and your family at the shrines. We hope the blessed beauty open a door for us to China.
    With Baha’i love,

What precious moments to cherish forever! To close one’s eyes and be there in an instant yet again and to be in His Presence is a glorious feeling. We are so lucky to have this Faith and be able to visit the Most Holy Spot on earth.
