Composing Love is Patient

First of all, thank you for all your kind responses for the free download of ‘Love is Patient’.  I’m so glad that you have enjoyed it.
I wanted to share with you a little more about how this song was created.  My husband and I used this specific quote at our wedding ceremony because we wanted the program to be diverse and inclusive for all the guests who attended.  This is one reason I chose this quote because it brings fond memories of my wedding day.  Another reason was that I had never set a quote from the Bible to music and was excited about doing that for the first time.
I started out playing the song with the usual piano sound that we always use and after listening to it, we wanted to bring a more unique, contemporary feel instead.  We decided to use an electric piano sound and debated for awhile about which particular sound as there are many to choose from.  What I like about the arrangement of the song is that it builds as the song progresses and reflects the power of the words, Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never ends”. The layering of the voices emphasize the beauty of the lyrics which are accompanied by lovely instrumentation of the Oboe and English horn performed by Morgan Zentner, and flute performed by Mark McGregor who played on Fire and Gold. Farshid Samandari assisted with composition of these parts and scoring adding an unexpected elegance and twist to the arrangement.
Jarome’s production on this song expanded the instrumentation from what I have used for my music in the past which I was pleased about.  I especially like that he chose to add various percussion to assist with the feeling of momentum in the song. Finally, we had
Douglas Gorkoff play the cello parts Jarome composed to top it off.
It was a lot of fun singing and layering the piece with all the different parts. Creating harmonies and layering the vocals are one of my favorite parts of creating a song like this.  Hope you enjoy it!
