Several friends have asked for an update on the Ourstage International music competition. We made it to the semi-finals but have dropped ranking considerably.  If you’d like to help get exposure for my music, please vote!  Finals are in a day so please keep voting till the end of June.

Here are some detailed steps to help you with the voting process on ourstage so that it’s smoother:

1. Go to ourstage and login or create a new profile
2. Create an OurStage profile — you don’t need to fill out a lot of information, just the necessary info to register.
5. You will receive an email to confirm your registration, so click that link and your registration will be verified.
4. Once you are back in the OurStage page, after you’ve registered and verified, Login.  The Login icon is in the top right hand side of the page.
5. Once you login, click this link or type in Elika Mahony in the search box at the top right hand of the screen next to login.
6. Now you’ll be on Elika’s profile page.
7. Click on this link to Judge
8. You will now be able to see pairs of songs that you can listen to and vote on. You have to listen to 15 seconds of each song before you can vote.
9. Songs may come up more than once, this is normal. If you’ve already heard a song before, you don’t need to listen again to vote.
10. When Edge of Forever comes up for a vote, please vote for the song above the cover.
11. That’s it! You can either continue to vote, if you want, or you can be done for the day.  Every vote is appreciated!
Elika should come up within your first 20 votes, as long as you made her your favorite artist.

Our song, ‘Edge of Forever’ was entered in the ourstage.com song contest in the World category on June 1st.  We were thrilled to hear a week ago that it had reached #1 out of 271 entries!!  As the contest is on for a full month (the final results are at the end of June), we have to continue voting for the song for it to maintain its high rank.  A few days ago, the song went down to 3rd place but I’m confident that it will make it to the quarter finals next week.

The contest is great because it requires you to vote for other artists as well by listening to their songs before you can vote on ours so it’s fair and unbiased that way, and it’s a lot of fun! It’s also a great way to hear some new music. That means you can’t just vote for me, you have to listen to other artists until my song comes up.  So you have to listen to the two songs they provide for you and choose your favorites before they give you a new pair to judge. You only have to listen to the first 15 seconds before you judge which song you like and then a new pair of songs is presented. I am happy to announce that the songs that I’ve been working on lately are now available on CD!

This is the first time I’ve released an EP (short length album) ‘Edge of Forever’ and it’s now available for sale on kunaki.  It is a limited edition as we won’t be producing anymore of them once we release the full CD.  Here is the link for purchase with a credit card. Many friends have asked me about purchasing the music as it was only available for digital download until recently so I’m thrilled that more of you can have access to it now.

The songs are available on itunes for download on this site.  As it is not available in certain countries (like Kenya and China and other countries) at this time, we are now working on making it available on the website itself.  I’ll let you know when that happens.  Thanks for your patience. :)

Recent great news is that my producer, Jarome, and his lovely family just moved to Beijing!

We’ve worked long distance for several years now and it has had its successes and challenges.  One of the difficulties was that the distance delayed the release of our first project, Fire and Gold as it took awhile sending files back and forth and collaborating from afar.  But since we were both dedicated to the music projects, we were able to follow through and finish them (since Fire and Gold we have released the CD Birds of Love and digital release – Edge of Forever as well as a couple of charity music projects).  Recently we have done more collaborating as far as writing the songs and it has been inspiring working on them together.

Now that Jarome has moved to Beijing, I’m thrilled to be able to record in his professional studio which is a much better quality than I’ve used before so I’m sure the music will sound even better!  What a treat to be able to work in person on the many upcoming music projects.  I will be soon be sharing more about one of the songs we are currently working on…

I have also written about exploring a new style and how excited I am to go in a new direction. If you haven’t already heard the music, have a listen and drop me a line to let me know which is your favorite.

About a month ago, we released 3 original songs on my website from my new EP, Edge of Forever, and I’d like to share some of the feedback I’ve been receiving about them.  I was so excited and a little nervous to release the new songs because they are so different from my previous music so I was very curious to hear your thoughts.  Many friends wrote in by email and on the blog expressing their thoughts and I was pleasantly surprised by their responses.

Most people commented on the beauty of the song, ‘Missing You’ and loved the emotion in it.  Several friends wrote that the song reminded them of someone that had passed on or of a very dear friend.  The beauty of this song is that it can be personalized in whatever way the listener wants.

Another favorite on the EP was the song ‘Edge of Forever’.  Many people loved the arrangement, the lyrics, as well as the enchanting guitar with the ethereal vocals in the background.
