As the Bahá’í fast is coming to an end, I thought I would post another video/slideshow from ‘Meditations for the Fast’. The piece is called ‘Every Hour of These Days’ and contains some of my favorite quotations from the fast. They have inspired and sustained me during this period, and I hope they uplift you as well. Enjoy!
If you have not yet seen the video created for ‘Invocation for the Long Fasting Prayer’ with beautiful photographs of the Bahá’í World Centre, here is a link to view the video.
Quotations for the Fast:
Thou hast endowed every hour of these days with a special virtue, inscrutable to all except Thee, whose knowledge embraceth all created things. – Bahá’u’lláh
Fasting is the cause of the elevation of one’s spiritual station.
Even though outwardly the Fast is difficult and toilsome, yet inwardly it is bounty and tranquillity. – Bahá’u’lláh
…fasting is the supreme remedy and the most great healing for the disease of self and passion. – Bahá’u’lláh
Fasting is essentially a period of meditation and prayer, of spiritual recuperation, during which the believer must strive to make the necessary readjustments in his inner life, and to refresh and reinvigorate the spiritual forces latent in his soul. – Shoghi Effendi cited in the notes to the Kitab-i-Aqdas, page 176.
